Building Construction and Civil Engineering Division
BACKGROUND
Accordingly, the Institution of Engineering and Technology established the IET Civil Division which comprised of all professionals in the area of Construction, Building and Civil Engineering Practice. Currently, the division had more than two thousand membership and still counting.
OBJECTIVE OF THE DIVISION
The objective of Civil division of the Institution of Engineering and Technology is to efficiently organize the division and consistently enhance the capabilities of its members by keeping them updated on the latest engineering advancements in Ghana and globally, by organizing seminars, workshops, programmes, etc., in line with overall goals of the constitution of Institution.
THE ROLE OF THE CIVIL DIVISION
Section 17(B) of the IET-GH Constitution provides that “The Technical Divisions so established, shall be an implementing organ carrying out such programmes and activities including the organization of Engineering Seminars and Workshops, Field trips and other such programmes as shall be determined by the Council.
Consequently, the division has over years organized programmes not only for the division, but for the Institution as a whole. Some of the programmes include:
a) The use of Professional Stamp – Divisional Chairman (Engr Davor Wonder)
b) Turkey’s Earthquakes: lessons for Ghanaians – IET President, (Engr Henry Kwadwo Boateng)
c) Shaking Up the Earth : Unveiling the Causes and Propagation of Earthquakes by (Engr Bismark Koomson)
d) Engineering ethics – Board member of Engineering Council of Ghana (Engr Eric Atta Sonno)
e) BOQ for effective project management – Senior Lecturer – University of science and Technology
f) Building Code of Ghana GS 2017 – Building Code preparation Chairman – Ing. Bright Attipoe
g) What the professionals must know about the new land law 2020 – the Law drafting committee chairman (Patric Mireku Esq.)
h) Construction Contract administration for Engineers – Senior Lecturer – University of science and Technology
