The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH) has officially inaugurated its Student Chapter at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), marking a significant milestone in its mission to nurture ethical, innovative, and community-focused engineering leaders.
The event brought together a dynamic mix of academia, industry experts, and enthusiastic students, all aligned in one purpose: building a better Ghana through responsible engineering.
Delivering the keynote address, Engr. Henry Kwadwo Boateng, President of IET-GH, issued a compelling call to action:
“Engineering must evolve beyond machines and infrastructure. It must focus on people, purpose, and, above all, the preservation of our future.”
Engr. Boateng emphasized the urgent environmental challenges facing the nation—from polluted water bodies to deforestation and contamination of food crops—referencing research from Atiwa East confirming heavy metals in local produce.
He called on students to be more than just engineers—to become guardians of national progress, innovation, and integrity.
