The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, has underscored the strong connection between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa’s Agenda 2063 during his address at the Africa Future Summit.
In a report published by GhanaWeb TV on October 22, 2025, Prof. Acakpovi outlined how both frameworks complement each other, offering a unified roadmap for Africa’s sustainable and inclusive growth.
He explained, “The SDGs and Agenda 2063 — The Africa We Want — are not parallel tracks but complementary pathways. The SDGs serve as stepping stones, while Agenda 2063 represents the ultimate destination.”
According to him, Ghana’s achievements and challenges in areas such as renewable energy expansion, digital transformation, youth innovation, inequality reduction, and climate resilience are directly tied to the key pillars of Agenda 2063.
Prof. Acakpovi further noted that Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous and integrated continent, provides a strategic framework that aligns seamlessly with the global objectives of the SDGs. This alignment, he emphasized, is essential for mobilizing resources, strengthening partnerships, and driving transformative progress across Africa.
He added, “If Ghana sustains its momentum and tackles its structural challenges through integrated planning, inclusive governance, and youth-driven innovation, the country will not only achieve many SDG targets by 2030 but also contribute significantly to Africa’s broader vision of prosperity, peace, and sustainability by 2063 — truly realizing ‘The Africa We Want.’ To reset effectively, we must rethink how growth and sustainability intersect.”
Prof. Acakpovi concluded by stressing the need for national and regional integration of both development agendas to ensure long-term, cohesive progress across the continent.
