Our Background

The Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana, is a registered Licensed Professional Engineering Body of the Engineering Council, Ghana under the Engineering Council Act 2011, Act 819.

Formation of the institution began in 1983 but received its Certificate of Incorporation in 1986 as the Ghana Institution of Technician Engineers under the Professional Bodies Registration Decree 1973, (NRCD 143). It was subsequently gazetted under Certification Number 23. After operating under the name for ten years, the institution rebranded into the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (I.I.E.) on 27th August 1996 in conformity to global trends within the Engineering Profession.

Due to the fast growth in its membership, the upgrading skills and academic qualification, coupled with the challenges to be addressed as a founding Institutional Member of the Engineering Council in Ghana, the Institution again undertook a constitutional review as part of which its name was changed to the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana on 7th February 2014.

The institution derives its membership from various professional practitioners from the Mechanical, Automobile, Aviation, Marine, Agricultural, Civil, Building/Construction, Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Chemical, Biomedical and allied engineering fields and is mandated by its law of incorporation with the Registrar General’s Department to register Professional Engineers, Professional Engineering Technologists, Engineering Technicians and Engineering Craftsmen.
